Trip Overview

The Pikey Peak Trek is an amazing trekking destination in the lower Khumbu region which offers you nice panoramic views of Mt. Everest along with other snowcapped mountains. The Pikey Peak is hilltop from where you get nice views of the Himalayas in the Khumbu region. The scenic drive in the trek presents you amazing views of nice landscapes embedded with rivers, hills and vast pasture fields. You’ll also get the opportunity to observe the lifestyle of the people living in the lower Khumbu region.

You’ll land at Tribhuvan International Airport where you’ll meet our representative and be driven to the hotel. You start your journey the next day with a drive to Dhap from Kathmandu. You’ll drive along the Sun Koshi River with nice views of hills and rivers.

Next, you head to Jhapre via Sigane with a nice view of the Himalayas. Mount Everest and Nimbur Himal are seen clearly from Jhapre. Further on, you head towards the Pikey Base Camp via Bhulbule and the small settlement of Lhamuje.

Finally, the next day, you climb to the top of the Pikey Peak to view the sunrise. Along with sunrise, you get to see panoramic views of the Himalayas, spreading from the Annapurna Range to the Kanchenjunga Peak. The view is breathtaking and a wonderful experience.

After spending some time at the top, you return to base camp and have breakfast, followed by a trek to Chaula Kharka. You pass Kosinasa and Lamane villages to reach Chaula Kharka. Next day, you head to the big and famous village of lower Khumbu- the Shivalaya.

You cross the settlement of Deurali on the way to Shivalaya from Chaula Kharka. The trek ends in Shivalaya, from where you drive back to Kathmandu. September-December, which is autumn, and February-June, which is spring, are the best time for this trek. The temperature is suitable and the views are clear in those seasons. Monsoon brings rainfall and winter is cold and views are not clear.

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu [1300m] 

Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Dhap [2800m] 6-7 hours 

Day 3: Trek from Dhap to Sigane or Jhapre [2920 m] 4-5 hours 

Day 4: Trek from Jhapre to Pikey Base Camp [3640m] 6-7 hours trek 

Day 5: Trek from Pikey Peak Base Camp to Chaula Kharka [1460m] Via Pikey Peak [4065m], 6-7 hours trek 

Day 6: Trek from Chaula Kharka to Shivalaya [1770m] 7-8 hours trek 

Day 7: Drive from Shivalaya to Kathmandu [7 - 8 hours]

Itinerary

After you land at Tribhuvan International Airport, our team will welcome you. Then, you’ll be taken to our hotel for accommodation. You’ll have a brief orientation and will be introduced to the trek guide. You can go shopping to buy necessary items and prepare for the trek. Overnights stay in Kathmandu.
The first day, your journey starts with a drive to Dhap Bazaar from Kathmandu. You’ll drive along the Sun Koshi River until you reach Ghurmi. On the drive, you'll get to see beautiful landscapes of the hillsides, rivers, forests, and fields. After hours of driving and passing different settlements, you’ll reach Dhap Bazaar. You can explore the local market and observe the lifestyle of the local people living in Dhap. Overnights stay in Dhap.
This day, you leave Dhap Bazaar and head towards Jhapre. Firstly, you’ll walk along the dry trails that lead to Sigane. Then, the trail changes to a bumpy and rough path towards Jhapre. You get a glimpse of Himalayas as you walk towards Jhapre. The village of Jhapre gives you a nice view of Mt. Everest and the Nimbur Himal. There are small Buddhist Stupas and Gompas in Jhapre for you to visit. Overnights stay in Jhapre.
Further, you head to Pikey Base Camp from where you climb to the top of Pikey Peak. You start with a dusty trail which then takes you to an ascending trial to Bhulbule. The trail gets steeper and you walk through the forests of rhododendron and reach the small settlement of Lhamuje. The trail gets wider here on out, and you see yaks grazing on the fields. After some uphill walk, you’ll reach the Pikey Base Camp where you can have nice views of surrounding mountains. Overnights stay in Pikey Base Camp.
Finally, this day you climb to the top of Pikey Peak. You start early morning before sunrise along the gradually ascending trail. As you reach the top, you can see prayer flags covering most of the peak-top. The view from the top is breathtaking and you get to see panoramic views of the Himalayas, ranging from the Annapurna Peaks to Kanchenjunga. You can view magnificent sunrise above the Himalayas like Mt Everest, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Annapurna, and Langtang, etc. You'll return to the base camp for breakfast and continue towards Chaula Kharka. You’ll pass local villages of Kosinasa and Lamane to reach Chaula Kharka. Overnights stay in Chaula Kharka.
This day, you’ll trek to your last destination, Shivalaya. Shivalaya is a big and famous village of the Khumbu region. You’ll climb up to the Deurali pass from Chaula Kharka and then head downwards to Shivalaya. The Deurali Bazaar is the rest point which is where you’ll have lunch. There are many hotels and lodges in Shivalaya where you can rest after the tiring trek. Overnights stay in Shivalaya.
Lastly, you’ll drive to Kathmandu from Shivalaya. You pass Charikot, Mudu, and Dolalghat as you continue further on the Araniko Highway. After you reach Kathmandu, you check in to the hotel and have a nice farewell dinner. You can walk around the hotel area in the evening if you are interested. Overnights stay in Kathmandu.
You’ll be dropped off at the Tribhuvan International Airport before your scheduled flight. You can also book other tour and trek packages, if interested.
