Trip Overview

Pikey Peak to Everest Base Camp Trek is an adventurous and challenging trek in the Khumbu region of northern Nepal. This trek takes you to Pikey Peak and the base camp of the world’s tallest mountain, Mount Everest (8848m). The trek offers a mesmerizing panorama of the Everest Himalayas and the chance to observe the Sherpa culture. Similarly, the biodiversity of the Sagarmatha National Park is simply glorious as well. All in all, the trek explores some of the best vantage points to Witness Mountains like Lhotse (8516m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Ama Dablam (6856m), and Nuptse (7861m) among others.

The Pikey Peak to Everest Base Camp trek starts with a drive to Dhap from Kathmandu. The actual trek starts on the next day as you head to Jhapre Gompa. This day, you get glimpses of the Himalayas in Everest and Nimbur ranges. The next day, you head to Pikey Peak Base Camp from Jhapre Gompa. Further, you climb to the top of Pikey Peak (4065m) and view the panorama of Jugal, Gauri Shankar, and Everest ranges.

Next, you head back to base camp and head to Junbesi. From here, your journey towards the Everest Base Camp starts. Passing Nunthala, you continue with a trek along the Kari Khola to Phakding. En route, you trek past Paiya and the Kari La Pass (3145m). From Phakding, you head to Namche Bazaar and spend one more day to acclimatize. Further, you head to Tengboche Monastery where the trail further takes you to Dingboche. You spend the next day in Dingboche for acclimatization and hike to Nagarjun on that day. Next, you head to Lobuche from Dingboche.

Finally, you trek to the Everest Base Camp via Gorakshep and after exploration, you head back to Gorakshep. Next day, you’ll hike to Kalapatthar for the early sunrise view along with views of Mt. Everest (8848m) and many other Himalayas. Finally, you begin the return trek and head back to Namche and then towards Lukla. Lastly, you take a flight to Ramechhap and then drive to Kathmandu. February-May and September-November are suitable months for this trek as the climate and weather are feasible.

Itinerary

You arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu where our company representative will be waiting for you. Then, you will drive to the hotel and freshen up. You’ll have a light snack and then will meet the trek guide. After the introductory part, you’ll get some information about the trek and prepare for the trip. Night stay in Kathmandu.
The trip begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Dhap Bazaar. You’ll drive through the road along the Sun Koshi River until you reach Ghurmi. You’ll get to see beautiful landscapes of the hills, rivers, forests, and fields on the drive. After hours of driving and passing different places, you’ll reach Dhap Bazaar. You can explore the local market and observe the lifestyle of the local people. Night stay in Dhap.
On the second day of the trek, you leave Dhap Bazaar and head towards Jhapre. First, you’ll walk along the trails that lead to Sigane. The trail is dry and easy while ascending and descending for on numerous occasions. Then, the trail changes to bumpy and rough as you head towards Jhapre. You’ll start to get a glimpse of Himalayas as you reach Jhapre. Jhapre offers beautiful views of Mt. Everest (8848m) and Nimbur Himal (6075m). Night stay in Jhapre.
On the third day, you head to the Pikey base camp, from where you climb to the top of the Pikey peak. You start along a dusty trail which leads you to an ascending trial to Bhulbule. The trail starts getting steeper and your trail goes through the forests of rhododendron to Lhamuje. The trail continues through the hillside below Taklung Danda and goes through dense forest. After you ascend for a short while, you’ll reach Pikey Base camp where you can have nice views of the surrounding Himalayas. Night stay in Pikey Base camp.
On this day, you’ll climb the Pikey Peak (6075m) and enjoy the glorious sunrise. The top is marked with prayer flags and the views are mesmerizing. Likewise, the vistas the top include mountains in Jugal, Numbur, and Everest ranges. Then, you return to Pikey Base Camp and head to Junbesi from Pikey Base Camp. You head to Jase Bhanjyang and then towards Loding. After lunch, you continue through the trail towards Junbesi. Night stay in Junbesi.
After early breakfast, you leave Junbesi, cross the Junbesi River, and head to Nunthala. The trail heads downwards and you walk in the direction that goes to Phaplu. The trail ascends to Phurteng from where you get glimpses of Mt. Everest (8848m). Then, you head to Salung where the trail descends and reaches the Taksindu La Pass. After around 10-15 minutes, you’ll reach Ringmo where you can have lunch. You head further to Taksindu Gompa and then descend to reach Nunthala. Night stay in Nunthala.
This day, you start from Nunthala and trek towards Kari Khola. You can start your trek after breakfast and with light snacks, you can reach Kari Khola to have lunch. You also pass the Dudh Kunda River on the way to Kari Kharka. You get sublime views of Makalu (8463m), Everest (8848m), Taboche (6367m), and some other snow-capped mountains from Kari Khola. Night stay in Kari Khola.
You start your day crossing the suspension bridge over Kari Khola and head to Bupsa. It takes about an hour to reach Bupsa with gradual ascend. Next, you head to Kari La Pass where the trail gets muddy and the final climb gets steeper towards the ridge. The trail from Kari La to Paiya is slippery and descends on most occasions. So, you need to be careful while walking and, after you cross a steel bridge, you’ll reach Paiya. Night stay in Paiya.
On your way to Phakding, you head towards Chheubaas from Paiya. Then, you'll ascend for some time and cross the Chutok La Pass. Further, the path descends towards the Dudh Koshi valley and you'll reach Surke. After you head uphill, you get to a junction that separates Lukla and Namche Bazaar. You pass Chauri Kharka, Chheplung, Thado Koshi, and Ghat on the way to Phakding. Night stay in Phakding.
After an early breakfast, you head out to Namche Bazaar from Phakding. As you start, you cross the suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River. Next, you reach the entry point of Sagarmatha National Park where the trails go through beautiful rhododendron forests. As you reach Namche Bazaar, you’ll notice more people along with modern restaurants and hotels. Since it is a major acclimatization destination, there are many areas that you can explore. Night stay in Namche Bazaar.
You spend a day in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization. You can go to the Everest View Hotel to view the beautiful sunrise and watch the majestic Himalayas including Mt. Everest (8848m), Nuptse (7861m), and Lhotse (8501m) in the morning. You can hike to Thame or Khumjung village and enjoy the Sherpa culture. By visiting those villages, you can observe the Sherpa culture and traditions as well as their lifestyle. Night stay in Namche Bazaar.
On the next day, you continue your journey towards the Everest Base Camp and head to Tengboche. You walk on the stone-paved trails and as you head further, you’ll be able to see the trails that you’ll be trekking which takes you to Tengboche. You’ll see many stupas, Chortens, and prayer flags while trekking across the trails. After a couple of hours, you’ll reach Sanasa. After climbing uphill, you’ll reach Tengboche where you can visit the Tengboche Monastery and spend the night in a hotel. Night stay in Tengboche.
On this day of the trek, you head to Dingboche from Tengboche. After you descend for about half an hour, you reach the banks of the Imja River. You’ll gradually ascend for a couple of hours and enter Pangboche. You get an up-close view of Ama Dablam (6856m) along with other distant Himalayas. You can visit the monastery in Pangboche and then continue along the trail to Dingboche. Dingboche is a farming area of the Sherpas and you’ll get to see Yaks and sheep grazing on the fields. Night stay in Dingboche.
Dingboche will serve as another acclimatization point in this trek. The climb takes about 4 hours and the climb is a bit challenging. You get more views on every climb which encourages you to reach the top of the Nagarjun Peak (5616m). When you get to the top, you get views of Ama Dablam (6856m), Kangtega (6685m), Thamserku (6608m), Taboche Peak (6367m), Lobuche West (6145m), and Lobuche East (6119m). You’ll rest and then return to Dingboche. Night stay in Dingboche.
On this day, you head to Lobuche which is the last stop before Everest Base Camp. You’ll start with a gradual ascent through the Khumbu river valley. You’ll head to Pheriche valley where you rest and cross a bridge to head towards Thukla. The surrounding around the trails are open and you get beautiful views of the nearby mountains. You trek through Thukla pass after you pass Thukla village. Lobuche is a small settlement and has few lodges and tea houses. Night stay in Lobuche.
Finally, you head to the Everest Base Camp from Lobuche. First, you head towards Gorakshep where you'll have your lunch. Then, you continue through the arid trails towards the Base Camp. You can see lots of stones stacked uniquely. There are many colored tents where the climbers stay before heading to the summit of Mount Everest. You get panoramic views of snow-capped mountains like Mt. Everest (8848m), Mt. Khumbutse (6686m), Mt. Nuptse (7861m), and more. You return to Gorakshep after exploring the Everest Base Camp for the night stay. Night stay in Gorakshep.
On this day, you’ll hike to Kalapatthar early morning to view the sunrise and the majestic views of Everest Himalayas. You’ll start early before sunrise and, after a couple of hours, you’ll reach the viewpoint of Kalapatthar. From here, you can enjoy the view of sunrise over mountains like Mt. Everest (8848m) and Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse (7861m), Cho Oyu (8201m), Ama Dablam (6856m), etc. After you enjoy the views and take some photos, you’ll return to Gorakshep. After you have breakfast in Gorakshep, you head towards Pheriche. Night stay in Pheriche.
As your return journey continues, you trek down at a slow pace to enjoy the views and surroundings. You’ll descend gradually towards Lobuche and then continue walking towards Dingboche. You cross the Imja River and descend towards Tengboche. You explore the Tengboche monastery area and take rest for some moment. Then, you’ll cross the Dudh Koshi River and continue your trek towards Namche Bazaar. Night stay in Namche Bazaar.
For the last day of your trek, you descend to Lukla from Namche Bazaar. You trek through the rhododendron and pine forests in the Sagarmatha National Park area. You exit from the National Park and then head to Phakding. You’ll see Mani walls, prayer flags and prayer stones on the trails all the way to Lukla. Night stay in Lukla.
Lastly, you take a flight to Ramechhap and drive to Kathmandu on a private bus or jeep. The drive will give you views of hills and rivers but you can rest after the long trek. You’ll arrive at Kathmandu in the evening and you can book other treks or tours if you are interested or return home.
This is the final day in Nepal for this time. Our representative will transfer you to the Tribhuvan International Airport from the hotel as per your flight schedule. You will fly back to your sweet home with beautiful memories of Nepal.
