Trip Overview

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is for the adventure seekers that takes you to the off-the-beaten trekking route in Nepal. The trekking route leads you to the northeast part of Nepal. Kanchenjunga Base Camp trek has a lot to offer you. It takes you to the wilderness of pristine high-land when you enjoy the beautiful views of snow-capped mountains. The region you will be traveling is a home for the people of various ethnicities. The trek takes you through Kanchenjunga Conservation Area that houses varies species of wild animals.

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek starts with the flight to Bhadrapur- an old city in eastern plane of Nepal. You will have a long drive to Taplejung district where your actual trek begins. You will be pleased to know that you are heading to the base camp of the world’s third highest mountain Mt. Kanchenjunga (8586m). Besides, it offers you magnificent views of other snow-capped mountains. Also, the trekking route comprises alpine lakes, pastures, forest, and waterfalls. Kanchenjunga Conservation Area is home for varies species wild animals such as Red Panda, snow leopard, Asian Black Bear including others.

The area is a home of various ethnicities of Nepal such as Sherpa, Limbu, Rai including others. You will have a glimpse of the culture and traditions of these ethnicities during the trek.

Primarily, September to November and March to May are considered to be the good months for trekking in the Kanchenjunga region. Anybody who loves to trek in a secluded route and wants to have the blend of experiences can go for this trek. However, as it is a difficult region trek you must have strong will power and prior hiking experience to complete this trek. We are dedicated to organizing the trek for you to make this journey a memory to cherish forever.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m)

Day 02: Kathmandu sightseeing and trek preparation (1400m)

Day 03: Fly to Bhadrapur and drive to Taplejung (1442m); 45 min flight and 9-hour drive

Day 04: Trek to Lalikharka (2265m) - 4 /5 hour 

Day 05: Trek to Khesewa (2120m) - 5/6 hour 

Day 06: Trek to Mamankhe (1785m) – 5/6 hour

Day 07: Trek to Yamphudin (2080m) - 4/5 hour

Day 08: Trek to Tortong (2995m) – 7/8 hour

Day 09: Trek to Cheram (3870m) - 2/3 hour

Day 10: Acclimatization and rest day at Cheram (3870m)

Day 11: Trek to Ramche (4580m) - 3 /4 hour

Day 12: Trek to Yalung Base Camp (4500m), back to Cheram – 3/4 hour

Day 13: Trek to Sele La (4290m) - 6 /7 hour

Day 14:  Trek to Ghunsa (3595) – 2/3 hour

Day 15: Trek to Kambachen (4050m) – 5/6 hour

Day 16: Trek to Lhonak (4780m) – 5/6 hour

Day 17: Trek to Kanchenjunga base camp, overnight at Pangpema (5143m) – 6/7 hour

Day 18: Trek to Lhonak (4780m) - 3/4 hour

Day 19: Trek to Ghunsa (3475m) - 6 /7 hour

Day 20: Trek to Amjilosa (2308m) – 5/6 hour

Day 21: Trek to Chirwa (1270m) – 6/7 hour

Day 22: Trek to Taplejung via Mitlung (1442m) – 7/8 hour

Day 23:  Drive to Bhadrapur (91m) 9-hour drive

Day 24: Fly to Kathmandu (1400m)

Day 25:  Departure from Kathmandu


Cost Includes

Airport pick up and drop service in a private vehicle

Welcome dinner and farewell dinner.

Twin-sharing accommodation in Kathmandu 

Accommodation during the trekking in a teahouse/Lodge and also in a tent as it’s a remote region treks and teahouses are not available in all the places of the trekking route

All three meals on the trek (breakfast, lunch, dinner), fruits after dinner and tea/coffee (3 times a day)

Round trip airfare to and from Bhadrapur and all the fares of domestic transportation pertaining to the trek 

Government certified English speaking trekking guide

The entire cost of the staff members involved in the trek (their salary, insurance, equipment, food, and accommodation)

Porters (one porter for every two trekkers) and his entire expenses (salary, food, accommodation equipment, and insurance)

Charges of all necessary documentation and permits that include a permit for Kanchenjunga Restricted Area, the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Permit 

Down jackets and sleeping bags (upon request), should be returned to the company after completion of the trek.  

Company’s duffel bag (upon request for the trek purpose only), and a company’s t-shirt as a souvenir.

Any other costs not itemized in the "Cost Includes" are your expenses. 


Today, you will arrive in the capital city of Nepal-Kathmandu. Soon after you exit completing your custom procedure, our representative will receives and transfers you to your hotel. We will sit together on agreed time and location for trek briefing. We will take you for a welcome dinner tonight. Overnight at Kathmandu.
Today, our guide will take you to the UNESCO world heritage sites that includes Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple including others. You will return hotel in the afternoon and have time for trek preparation. Overnight at Kathmandu.
You will take an early flight to Bhadrapur- the tropical city in the eastern part of Nepal. After that, you will drive to Taplejung. You will have a scenic drive through green vegetation and terraced farm on the hilly road. Overnight at Taplejung.
Today, your actual trek begins. You will be heading to Lalikharka village which lies in the Panchthar district- neighboring district of Taplejung. You will walk through the ups and down paths through the emerald forest to reach today’s destination. Overnight at the beautiful village of Lalikharka.
As you resume the trek, you will walk downhill to a place called Phundrawa. On a steep trail, you will arrive in Khesewa after crossing a place called Yangpang. You will enjoy the vegetation and have a glimpse of local lives on the route. Overnight at Khesewa.
An arduous trail leads you to Local River called Nandeva Khola. You will have a scenic travel today through forests, terraced farm field and also have a view of Mount Jannu or also known as Mount Kumbhakarna (7710m). After crossing a few hamlets such as Lophodin, Ponpe Dhara, Anpan, you will arrive in today’s destination Mamanke. Overnight at Mamanke.
As usual, you will resume the trek after breakfast; the trail leads you alongside Kabeli River so you will enjoy the gushing river and also waterfalls. You will cross a suspension bridge and pass a small hamlet before you arrive in today’s destination Yamphudin. Overnight at Yamphudin.
Today, you will ascend to Tortong. The path passes through picturesque terraced farmland and green pastures. You will enjoy the mountain vista on the route today. You will walk along a local river called Amji River. You will cross a pass named Lasiya Bhyanjang before arriving at Tortong where you stop for the day.
Today, you will walk through rhododendron forest and will walk alongside Simbuwa Khola. As you walk, you will also not miss unique alpine topography, terraced farm field and see the way of local lives. The moderate trail takes you to today’s destination Cheram. Overnight at Cheram.
Today is acclimatization day, and you can explore the nearby area such as Yalung Glacier or visit the adjacent viewpoints. Moreover, you can have a rest to re-energize yourself to resume your trek from the following day. Overnight at Cheram.
Comparatively, it’s a short day today. You will ascend to reach Yalung glacier. You will experience the unique topography today. The trail takes you to Ramche after crossing a local settlement known Lapsang village. You will also have the beautiful mountain vista today. After freshen up, you can climb nearby ridgeline that offers better views. Overnight at Ramche.
From Ramche, you will resume the trek on a moderate trail. Today, you will have a splendid view of Kahchhanjunga South Face. Further ahead, you will have a fantastic view of Mount Jannu. After crossing Oktang Monastery, you will arrive at today’s destination Yalung Base Camp. You will have the views of mountains on proximity. Overnight at Cheram.
The downhill and uphill track leads you to today’s destination Sele La. You will have a good view of Mount Makalu and Kanchenjunga during today’s trek. You can see big boulders on the route today. You will also pass Sele La Pass today. Overnight Sele La.
Today the trail mostly passes through dense alpine woods such as rhododendron and Juniper. The area is sparsely populated. You might spot snow leopard on the today’s trail so stick to your group. It’s a short day today. Ghunsa is a beautiful village with basic facilities.
Following breakfast at Ghunsa, you will trek alongside the river bank while enjoying the mountain vistas. You will pass through pine, rhododendron woods during today’s trek. Waterfalls and pastures are other attractions of the day. You will have a view of Mount Jannu. Overnight at Kambachen.
I could be demanding day today as the trail is full of boulders. You will walk alongside a river and also cross a Rangtang monastery. You will reach a landslide area before climbing down to a local stream. After that, a short walk brings you to today’s destination Lhonak. Overnight at Lhonak.
Today, you will explore the base camp of Kanchenjunga. Pangpema provides probably the best view of Kanchenjunga in the entire tour. From Pangpema you will go down to the Kanchenjunga Base Camp. The base camp also offers a fantastic view of Kanchenjunga, Jannu Himal including other peaks. You will retrace to Pangpema for the overnight stay.
Today you will be familiar with the trail as you retrace the track to Lhonak from Pangpema. Overnight at Lhonak.
Again, you will be retracing the way back to Ghunsa, so you know what to expect on the trek today. Overnight at Ghunsa.
From Ghunsa, the trail descends towards a settlement called Phale. Phale has a couple of tea houses and a monastery. Further slide takes you to Gyabla. You will have a steep descent from Gyabla and walk on a moderate trail before arriving today’s destination Amjilosa. Overnight at Amjilosa.
Soon after you resume today’s trek, a waterfall will greet you. You will pass two suspension bridges over Ghunsa River today. You will see the way of lives of local people as you will pass through a few settlements before arriving today’s destination Chirwa. Overnight at Chirwa.
Today is the final day of your actual trek. You will have a pleasant walking while enjoying the green vegetation, farmlands and local lives. After crossing a local settlement Mitlung, you will arrive in Taplejung. Stretch your aching leg and have a good rest. Overnight at Taplejung.
You will drive back to Bhadrapur today. Though it’s a long drive on the windy road, you will enjoy the views of green vegetation, hills, gushing river and way of local lives along the roadside. Overnight at Bhadrapur.
You will fly back to Kathmandu from Bhadrapur airport today. You might have a bird’s eye-views of the eastern part of Nepal while on board. We will escort you to your hotel in Kathmandu. You can take rest today, and we will take you for farewell dinner tonight. You may have some time for shopping and purchasing a souvenir for your friends and relatives.
Today, our representative will see you off at the Tribhuwan International airport in Kathmandu. You will fly back to your country with beautiful memories of Nepal.
