Gokyo Valley Trek is one of the famous trekking destinations in Nepal that offers you the view of fabulous mountains, widespread pasture; and takes you to the calm valley and pristine lake. In addition, the trek is also about local culture, tradition and various species of flora and fauna. The trek takes you to the distinctive terrain of the Khumbu region.
You can witness the world’s highest peak Mount Everest (8848m) including other mountains such as Mt. Lhotse (8414m), Mt. Makalu (8481m), Mt. Cho-Oyu (8201m) and Mt. Nuptse (7861); and the wide range of mountains in Khumbu region. You will also have a precious chance to have the fabulous view from Gokyo Ri (5357m) which is one of the famous viewpoints in Khumbu region. Pure turquoise water in Gokyo Lake takes you to the world of tranquility.
In addition to your journey to a natural world, this trek provides you a golden chance to know the world famous Sherpa people and their way of life. As you know the Sherpas are renowned for their skills in mountaineering and are rich in their culture and tradition. And, of course, in this birthplace of Lord Buddha, frequent Chortens, Mane, Prayer Wheels and Prayer flags take you to the Buddhist world.
Anyone having general physical fitness can undertake this trek; however, we recommend you to have some outdoor activities a few months prior to embarking on the trek. You should not worry about anything including Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) as our trained guide will accompany you the entire trip and respond to any kind of problems promptly. The good seasons to embark on this trek are spring and autumn.
Gokyo Valley Trek makes you content with the mixture of natural surroundings and local traditions. Hence, at the end of the trek, you will not regret not arriving in the Everest base camp since the trek covers almost all the characteristics of the Everest region.

Our representative will receive and transfer you to your hotel from the airport. We will meet you at your hotel or in our office for the briefing about the trek at around 5:30 pm. We will take you out for a welcome dinner in a typical Nepali restaurant where you can enjoy the live Nepali cultural program.
In the early morning, our guide will take you to the domestic airport for the flight to Lukla. You will meet your porter/s upon your arrival in Lukla who will carry your luggage the entire trek today onwards. After breakfast, the trek begins from this lively town. After 3/4 hours of trek, you will arrive Phakding where you stop for the day.
Today most of the path leads you alongside Dudhkoshi River. A few suspension bridges with flapping prayer flags welcome you in the Everest region today. Today, you will cross some Sherpa settlements including Monzo-a gateway to the Sagarmatha National Park. After crossing Hillary Bridge, you will ascend on a steep path through an alpine woods to reach Namche Bazar. Namche Bazar is a renowned stop for the trekkers and mountaineers in the Everest region.
You will stay at Namche Bazar today for tuning your body with the altitude. You will have a guided day excursion around Namche Bazar including renowned Sherpa Museum on the top of the nearby hill. The museum yard offers you the fantastic views of Himalayan range making you feel that you are in the mountain region now. You can ascend up to the Everest View hotel on a steep path; from where you can have a marvelous view of Mount Everest and other mountains. Overnight at Namche Bazar.
Today, initially the route leads you through an alpine forest with various vegetation. Thereafter, you will descend to the river at Phortse Thanga. You will have a spectacular ascend through juniper and rhododendron woods. Of course, you have these views against the backdrop of the mountains. You will arrive at the village of Dole where you halt for the day.
Following breakfast at Dole, you will resume your trek. As the altitude increases, you will now enter a beautiful but remote landscape and yak pasture. Though you start a day with a climb to a ridge, you will be rewarded with the view of Mt. Cho-Oyu (8,201 m) while continuing the trek. Then, you will descend to a small village of Machherma located in a valley. You will stay here tonight.
Today is one of the important days of the trek since you will be arriving in one of the main attraction of the treks- the Gokyo Lake (4790m). As you ascend, you feel like you are closer to the mountain ranges. Gokyo Lake is locally known Dudhkunda-a pond of milk. Hindus and Buddhists consider it as a holy pond. The pristine blue greenish water in Gokyo Lake mesmerize you. The lakes in Gokyo receive water from glacier ice melt. Small Gokyo village lies in the eastern bank where you spend two nights. Enjoy the view of mountains around including Mount Cho-Oyu (8201m).
Gokyo is a small village located close to Gokyo-Ri-one of the best viewpoints in Khumbu region. This is one of the highest human settlements in the world. Primarily, the denizens here on tourism for their living. You can go for a day excursion to the fourth and fifth lake since Gokyo Lakes is a series of six spectacular lakes.
After the breakfast, you will hike to Gokyo-Ri. This is one of the popular viewpoints in the Everest region. As you climb Mount Everest (8848m) including other peaks such as Cho-Oyu (8201m), Lhotse (8414m), Makalu (8481m) and Nuptse (7861) appear right in front of you. You can see the pristine Gokyo Lake down while enjoying the mountain views. Following Lunch, you will head towards Machhermo. After a couple of hours trek, you will arrive in Machhermo where you halt for the day.
As you know that today’s trail goes up and down. You will ascend to Dole on a moderate trail, and they will have a stunning descend through juniper and rhododendron forest. The forest looks picturesque especially in spring when rhododendron blooms. After crossing beautiful Phortse Thanga village (3680 m), in about two hours you will reach Namche Bazar for the overnight stay.
As you leave Namche Bazar, the trail leads you downhill through a pine forest up to Hillary Bridge. The same prayers flags on the suspension bridges will bid you farewell while returning to Lukla. After crossing some settlements, you will arrive in Lukla to end your actual trek. The porter gives back your stuff at Lukla and bids farewell to you. Stay overnight at Lukla.
After early breakfast, you will all set to fly back to Kathmandu from Lukla airport. You will witness exhausted trekkers, like you, while waiting for their flight back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival at Kathmandu airport, the guide will transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon you will have time to explore Thamel and buy some souvenirs. We will take you for a farewell dinner today.
Unless you extend your trip for other activities in Nepal, today is the last day of your trip. We will transfer you to Tribhuwan International Airport as per your flight schedule back home. Fly back to your homeland with beautiful memories of Nepali mountains.
