Ghorepani Jomsom Trek

Trip Overview

The Ghorepani Jomsom Trek is listed as one of the most adventurous treks in the Annapurna region. The Ghorepani Jomsom Trek takes you to Poon Hill to view the majestic mountain peaks of the Annapurna ranges (8,091m), the Dhaulagiri Peak (8,167m), the Machhapuchhre Himal (6,993m) and many more. On the latter part of the trek, you head to the stunning Mustang District to visit Muktinath, Kagbeni, and Jomsom. You’ll get the opportunity to visit traditional Sherpa and Gurung settlements on the trek.

Your glorious journey starts from Pokhara from where you drive to Tikhedhunga, which is the starting point of the trek. You then trek to Ulleri and spend the night there. Next day, you head to Ghorepani via Nangethanti. The trail is pleasant and most of them go through rhododendron forests. Furthermore, you head to Poon Hill the next morning to view the beautiful sunrise and views of Himalayas.

You get to view the Annapurna Range, the Dhaulagiri ranges, the Nilgiri Peak, the Machhapuchhre Himal, the Hiunchuli Peak and many more from the top of Poon Hill. After watching the views, you trek back to Ghorepani and head to Tatopani. Ghasa is the next destination on this journey. You begin trekking along the Kali Gandaki River on the route beyond the deepest gorge.

The Himalayas gives you constant company throughout the trek as you head to Ghasa. Next, you trek towards Marpha and explore the Thakali village. Your exploration of lower Mustang starts from Marpha that leads you to Kagbeni, Muktinath and Jomsom. You trek to Kagbeni from Marpha and then head to Muktinath Temple. You visit the temple and then descend to Jomsom via Lubra village. Lastly, you’ll return to Pokhara where your journey ends. Autumn and spring are the favorable seasons to do this trek as you can view the Himalayas clearly and the rhododendrons make your route beautiful.

Day 01: Drive to Tikhedhunga from Pokhara [3 Hrs] and trek to Ulleri [1960m] [3 Hrs]

Day 02: Trek from Ulleri to Ghorepani (2,860m) [4-5 Hrs]

Day 03: Trek from Ghorepani to Tatopani (1,190m) [5-6 Hrs] after an early morning Poon hill Hike

Day 04: Trek from Tatopani to Ghasa (2,480m) [5-6 Hrs]

Day 05: Trek from Ghasa to Marpha (2,670m)

Day 06: Trek from Marpha to Kagbeni (2,800m)

Day 07: Trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath (3,670m)

Day 08: Trek from Muktinath to Jomsom (2,720m)

Day 09: Flight: Jomsom to Pokhara (820m), Overnight stay in Pokhara, own hotel arrangement


Cost Includes

Airport pick up and drop service in a private vehicle

Pokhara (2 nights) at tourist standard hotel along with breakfast

Accommodation during the trekking in a teahouse/Lodge

All three meals on the trek (breakfast, lunch, dinner), fruits after dinner and tea/coffee (3 times a day)

Tourist coach drive to and from Pokhara (air ticket or private vehicle can be arranged on the client’s behalf upon request)

Government certified English speaking trekking guide

The entire cost of the staff members involved in the trek (their salary, insurance, equipment, food, and accommodation)

Porters (one porter for every two trekkers) and his entire expenses (salary, food, accommodation equipment, and insurance)

Charges of all necessary documentation and permits that include a permit for Annapurna Conservation Area perm, Trekkers Information Management Systems (TIMS) Card

Down jackets and sleeping bags (upon request), should be returned to the company after completion of the trek. 

Company’s duffel bag, and a company’s t-shirt as a souvenir.

Your personal equipment and other expenses such as mineral water, soft beverages, laundry, hot drinking water on the trek, bar bills, showers, internet, battery chargers etc. 

Your travel insurance that covers helicopter evacuation as well as medical expenses and trip cancellation

Tipping to the guide, porter, and drivers

Any other expenses not itemized in the "What is Included in the Trip cost? " are your personal expenses. 


Early morning, you drive to Tikhedhunga from Pokhara on a private vehicle. You start your trek passing a suspension bridge over the Tikhedhunga River and the trail starts to ascend slightly. You climb the stone staircase that has more than 3,200 steps to reach Ulleri. After climbing to the top of the hill, you'll see Annapurna South (7219m) and Hiunchuli (6441m). Overnights stay in the lodge at Ulleri.
This day’s trek is easy and a pleasant one as you walk along with a smooth trail through the forests. The trail continues through blooming rhododendrons and oak forests. With gentle climb, you reach Nangethanti, which is a popular rest place for the trekkers. You rest for some time and then continue your climb to Ghorepani. You also get the chance to witness many wild birds and animals on the way. Overnights stay at Ghorepani.
Early morning, you head toward Poon Hill in excitement to view the majestic views of the snowcapped mountains. Your hike to Poon Hill takes around 1 hour as you get to the altitude of 3,210 meters. You will have a nice view of the sunrise and get magnificent sightings of many snowy peaks. You'll see the Himalayas like Annapurna South (7219m), Hiunchuli (6411m), Nilgiri (7061m), Tukuche peak(6920m), Annapurna ranges, Dhaulagiri ranges, Lamjung Himal (6983m), Machhapuchhre (6993m), Mt. Manaslu (8156m) and many more. You return to Ghorepani for breakfast and then head to Tatopani where you can enjoy a dip in the nice hot spring after the tiring day. Overnights stay in Tatopani.
Further along the trek, you head to Ghasa from Tatopani, starting with a route that goes beyond the deepest gorge of the Kali Gandaki. You get a nice view of Nilgiri as you start the trek. You continue along the banks of the Kali Gandaki River with nice views of the landscapes around. Then, you cross a suspension bridge over the Bhalu River and walking through the narrow trail, you reach Ghasa- a traditional Thakali village. Overnights stay in Ghasa.
You start the day with a steep climb through the forest to Lete Khola before reaching Lete. You continue towards Larjung village and pass Tukuche. You get a nice view of the Annapurna Range along with Nilgiri that makes the trek more mesmerizing. Finally, you reach Marpha, which is the Apple capital of Nepal. You get to witness the lifestyle of the local Sherpa and Thakali people throughout the journey. You also get to observe the beautiful landscapes of hills, rivers, and the Himalayas. Overnights stay in Marpha.
This day’s trek is moderate and the trail is made of gravel so the trail isn’t quite as smooth. Yet, the trek to Kagbeni offers you an exploration of lower Mustang along with the incredible view of the Annapurna Range, the Dhaulagiri Range, the Tukuche Peak, and the Nilgiri Mountains. You get to see many Buddhist Stupas along the trail and pass Ekle Bhatti to reach Kagbeni. Overnights stay in Kagbeni.
This day, you visit the Holy site- the Muktinath Temple in the Ranipauwa village. During the trek, you come across stunning views of Himalayas, as well as enjoy the natural beauty and the beautiful landscape. You will pass through villages of Khingar and Jharkot to reach Muktinath. Muktinath is a holy place for both the Buddhist and the Hindu pilgrims. Also, taking a bath under the 108 spouts beside the temple is said to get you free from sins committed in this life span. Overnights stay in Muktinath.
After breakfast, you start your trek from Muktinath towards Jomsom. You leave the markets and settlements and trek towards Lubra Danda, and further to Lubra village. You spend some time in the Thakali village and enjoy the view of Himalayas. Then, the wide and flat trail leads you to Jomsom, headquarter of the Mustang district. Overnights stay in Jomsom.
Lastly, after breakfast, you fly back to Pokhara and relax at the lakeside. If time permits, you can also visit some of the popular sites in Pokhara city. If you want to catch the local bus from Jomsom to Pokhara, it is possible, but the roads are off-beaten and dusty.
