Everest Base Camp via Gokyo Valley Trek provides ample chance for the trekkers to watch the tallest mountain on the globe, Mount Everest, including other towering peaks such as Mt. Cho-Oyu (8201m) and Mt. Lhotse (8516m). Apart from the general views of the mountains from the regular route; the trekkers will never get tired of watching the picturesque view of the wide range of the Himalayas from the famous viewpoints in the Khumbu region namely Gokyo Ri (5357m) and Kalapatthar (5643m). This trek is a unique trek in the Everest region because it doesn’t follow the classic trial. The trek starts from Lukla to Namche Bazar and from there you will head to Dole village eventually to the Gokyo valley and to the Everest Base Camp crossing the Cho-La pass. The Cho-La pass is one of the iconic passes in the Everest region located at an altitude of 5,420m above sea level. This pass connects the Gokyo to the Everest Base Camp and vise-versa.

Reaching the Everest Base Camp and crossing the Cho-La pass is a remarkable achievement. Hence, during the trek, we will stop at Namche and Gokyo for acclimatization. It is very important to adjust our bodies to a higher altitude to prevent getting altitude sickness.

Since this trek takes you to a high altitude, our guide and other team members are trained to recognize Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and address such sickness timely.

Best time for Everest Base Camp via Gokyo Valley Trek

The best trekking months to go on the Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo Valley are March to May and September to December. During this time the weather is very pleasant and the views are crystal clear. Especially, the captivating view of the turquoise lakes of Gokyo will make your jaw drop. You will have the best sunrise view and panoramic view of the mighty Himalayas from Gokyo Ri and Kala Patthar. The daytime is generally warm and sunny which adds comfort while trekking but the night is extremely cold and freezing.

Day 1: Arrival day in Kathmandu (1400m)

Day 2: Fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2610m)

Day 3: Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m)

Day 4: Acclimatization day at Namche Bazar (3440m)

Day 5: Trek to Dole (4038m)

Day 6: Trek to Machhermo (4470m)

Day 7: Trek to Gokyo (4750m)

Day 8: Acclimatization and rest day at Gokyo (4750m)

Day 9: Hike to Gokyo-Ri (5,357m) and trek to Thagnag (4350m)  

Day 10: Cross Cho-La (5420m) and trek to Dzongla (4,830 m)   

Day 11: Trek to Lobuche (4,940 m)

Day 12: Trek to Everest Base Camp (5364m) and return to Gorakshep (5164m)   

Day 13: Trek to Kalapatthar (5644m) and trek down to Periche (4371m)  

Day 14: Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m)   

Day 15: Trek to Lukla (2860m)

Day 16: Fly back to Kathmandu (1400m)

Day 17: Departure from Kathmandu (1400m)

Soon after your exit after immigration procedures at the airport, our representative will be there with your name card who will receive and transfer you to your respective hotel. We will take you to a Nepali restaurant tonight where you can enjoy the Nepali cuisine with cultural dance. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
We will transfer you to the domestic airport in Kathmandu and you will fly to Lukla along with your guide. Besides your daypack, you will hand over the other luggage to your porter/s at Lukla. After breakfast, you will set off for the trek from Lukla Bazar. After 3/4 hours of walk crossing a couple of settlements, you will reach Phakding where you halt for the day.
After breakfast, you will resume the trek. Today, you will be passing through a few suspension brides with the fluttering prayer flags on them. The herd of the mule is frequent on the trail today onwards. Primarily today’s route goes alongside Dudhkoshi River. After going through few settlements, you will climb uphill through pine forest prior to entering Namche Bazar. Overnight stay at Namche Bazar.
For acclimatization purpose, you will spend today at Namche Bazar. The guide will take you around Namche Bazar for a day tour. After visiting the famous Sherpa museum in a nearby hill, you will go uphill to Syanboche airport or Everest View Hotel that offers you a better view of Mount Everest and the wide range of mountains. You will descend to Namche Bazar for the overnight stay.
Today, the route goes up through an alpine forest with various vegetation. After that, the route leads you down to the river at Phortse Thanga. You will have a stunning ascent through juniper and rhododendron woods. Of course, you have these scenes against the background of the mountains. You will arrive in the village of Dole where you will spend the night.
Following breakfast at Dole, you will resume your trek. As the altitude increases, you will now enter a beautiful but remote landscape of tundra and yak pasture. You start a day with a climb to a ridge and you will enjoy the view of Mt. Cho-Oyu (8,201m) later. Then, you will descend to a small village of Machhermo located in a valley. You will stay here tonight.
Today is one of the important days of the treks since you will be arriving in one of the main attraction of the treks- the Gokyo Lake (4750m). As you ascend, you feel like you are closer to the mountain ranges. Gokyo Lake is locally known Dudhkunda-a pond of milk. Hindus and Buddhist considered it as a Holy Lake. Pristine blue greenish water in Gokyo Lake mesmerize you. These lakes in Gokyo receives water from glacier ice melt. Small Gokyo village lies on the bank where you spend your night today. Enjoy the view of mountains around including Mount Cho-Oyu.
As you gaining altitude, today is your rest and acclimatization day here in Gokyo. You can visit the places around including the other lakes of Gokyo or you simply can roam around the tiny village giving a rest to your aching legs as you have more days to walk ahead.
After breakfast, you will hike to Gokyo-Ri, a popular viewpoint in the Everest region. You will have a fascinating view of Himalayan peaks including Mt. Everest. You will climb down and have Lunch before heading to Thangnak. You have to climb up and over the adjacent to moraine of the Ngozumba Glacier and then walk across it. You will arrive at Thangnag where you stay today.
You will get prepared for the uphill after early breakfast and to cross over Cho-La pass over stony debris. The flapping prayer flags welcome you at the Pass. Of course, you are surrounded by mountains such as Ama Dablam, Cholatse. With a downhill, you will reach a small valley at Dzongla where you stay tonight.
The morning walk from Dzongla leads you to short climb with the picturesque views. You will rejoin the classic Everest Base Camp route today where you will have a fabulous view of wall of mountains. Later today, you will be accompanied by the world famous Khumbu Glacier until you arrived today’s destination Lobuche.
This is an important day of your entire trip as your dream of reaching to the Everest Base Camp is turning into reality today. After breakfast, a moderate stony trail via Gorakshep leads you to the Everest Base camp. And, definitely, this route offers you a majestic view of mountains along with the different landscape of the Everest Base Camp and surrounding. You will definitely express your victory when you are there and capture your memories in your cameras before returning to Gorakshep for the overnight stay.
In the early morning, you will hike up to the famous viewpoint of Kalapatthar today. Your endurance will be rewarded with the beautiful view of Mount Everest and other mountains when the morning sun is glittering on them. Thereafter, you will climb down to Gorerkshep and resume your trek to Periche after breakfast. You will stay overnight at Periche.
Today you will pass through Tyangboche where the biggest monastery of the Everest region lies. You will reach to the spiritual world with the flapping prayer flags, and priest and monks chanting Mantras. If you have time, you can make a quick visit to the monastery. With the great view of Everest, Ama Dablam, down and uphill path with pine, rhododendron forest aside leads you to Namche Bazar where you feel you are back to normal facilities.
Today is the last day of your actual trek. You will climb down through a pine forest from Namche. You are familiar with the trail so you will enjoy the things that you have missed earlier. Today, the prayer flags in the suspension bridges will bid farewell to you from Khumbu region. You will arrive in Lukla after crossing a few small settlements. You will stay overnight in Lukla.
You will fly back to Kathmandu from Tenzing-Hillary airport at Lukla after wrapping up your trek in Khumbu region. You will enjoy the view of hilly terrain while flying back to Kathmandu. You will be transferred to your hotel. You have leisure time today for exploring Thamel and buying a souvenir for your friends and relatives. We will take you for a farewell dinner tonight.
Our representative will transfer you to the Tribhuwan International Airport as per your flight time. With sweet memories of Nepal, you will fly back to your home country.
