The Chisapani Nagarkot Hiking trail is one of the closest hiking routes around the capital city. A lovely introduction to the stunning natural beauty of Nepal, the journey takes us through the quaint Gurung villages and ancient temples. At an altitude of 2,215m, Chisapani is located deep within the Shivapuri Nagerjun National Park and is well known for its picturesque natural beauty with a hint of the Himalayas.
Likewise, the hill station of Nagarkot offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the Manaslu Peak, the Rolwaling Himal, the Ganesh Himal, and Langtang ranges. Alongside a welcoming populace, the region offers a lovely respite from the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu valley.
Moreover, the ancient temple of Changunarayan is home to historical and religious monuments. The temple is considered to be one of the oldest temples of Nepal and brings out the very best of Shikhara and Pagoda style of architectures. Devoted to the Hindu Lord Vishnu, it houses the first written record of history alongside some prominent historical monuments. The Chisapani Nagarkot Hiking puts forward an incredible array of places, each adorned with a mesmerizing beauty, historical monuments and cultural diversity.
We begin our Chisapani Nagarkot Hike from Sundarijal, located on the north-eastern edge of Kathmandu Valley. Ascending through the lush green forests, the hilly trail takes us deep within the Shivapuri Nagerjun National Park, crossing through the villages of Mulkharka and Borlyang Bhanjyang.
Enjoying a lovely hilly breakfast at Chisapani, we set off towards Nagarkot, located at an altitude of 2,175m. The hilly trail guides us through the descending stretches of the valley, heading past Dhulabari and Jule villages. From Jarsing Pauwa, the trail heads east to reach Kattike, located just above Nagarkot.
The final day of our journey begins with a lovely Himalayan sunrise. Dropping down to the ancient temple of Changunarayan, we take some time off exploring the temple and local museum alongside the temple. The final stretch of our hilly adventure takes us back through the cobbled streets of Bhaktapur to reach the capital city for the night.
